innappropriate english: a beautiful thing

Today is my 22nd birthday in Thailand (happy birthday to me).
It worked out nicely to also be a Wednesday, my day with only 2 classes, so I was feeling pretty spunky, knowing I'd be done with class by 10:30am, thus free to sit at my desk and read In Touch magazine for the rest of the day (thanks for the care package, mom).

So in class today we played a game using the words Usually, Always, Sometimes, and Never. I stood on the chair during this game and called out phrases about how often you do things, and then made the kids run to the word that described the frequency. A couple of smart ass girls in the class kept running to "never" if I asked, say, how often they cleaned their room or did their homework.
So, since my students understand not a lick of english, I decided it's time to start having my own fun. When they ran to "never", I pointed to them and said into the microphone, "Man, you guys suck. You never clean your room? Your parents must hate you."
Feeling pretty good about this whole keeping myself entertained while no one understands me thing, I took kids' papers from them as they exited the classroom at the end of the period. "Bye teachaah!" they said to me as they left.
"Bye bye! Have a good weekend!" I said. "Try not to be little a-holes!"

Sweet job.

  1. hahaha that's awesome! I totally want to say horrible things to my students sometimes, but I think they'd be able to figure it out. They all like American TV/Movies. So annoying! haha.

    P.s. Happy Birthday!
